Autumn Thunderstorm

Rain chews the leaves, leaving nothing
but shredded carcasses on the pavement.

Where there once were leaves on the sidewalk
before the wind eradicated them, now only

ghostly patterns remain, like the shadows
of a dozen little Hiroshimas
