I
Studies show that minks
escape wherever
they are farmed.
II
We would swim in our dreams
and find the river’s whispering pull.
The forest’s heart
hides this future, this elixir,
this river otherness inside us.
To escape is to find you,
the voice of the river,
our liminal witness.
III
I live close to a mink fur farm.
Secured from the public,
by the forests and rivers,
are 400,000 certifiable minks.
Thousands of minks in fur farms
have died from Covid-19
in this swing state.
